His work is influenced by “consumerism”, technology and cyberculture with focus on obsolete media like PC floppy discs as seen in this artwork. Nick gentry creates a conversation between digital and analog processes. He mentioned once about floppy disks “By placing them there… it becomes easier to comprehend the speed and extent of changes that are taking place today.” Thus, he often incorporates elements of these materials into his figures and portraits forming collages of mixed media. For instance, the central magnetic circles of 3.5 inch floppy disks may even serve as eyes.

Nick Gentry
„Nick“ (Nicholas James) Gentry, born in 1980, is a British artist who works and lives in London. He studied at the renowned Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in London and is well known for his work focusing on paintings, graphical work, collages, social art and environmentalism. Gentry’s technique to compose paintings using materials like VHS cassettes, film negatives, x-rays or floppy disks is quite unique. His artworks have been featured worldwide in galleries, predominantly in the U.K. and U.S.A., and are exhibited alongside with other established contemporary artists like Damien Hirst as well as famous street artists, such as Banksy and Blek le Rat. Thus, he is linked with both Contemporary and Urban Art.
